The Republican who at one time wanted to be New York governor said he hopes to switch career paths and work in radio and television, in coverage related to politics or sports, his two great passions.
Astorino formerly had a successful career working for sports-related programming. In an interview with Daily Voice, Astorino, who was defeated by Democrat George Latimer on Nov. 7, said he looked forward to spending quality time with his family and the stability of returning to the private sector.
"Right now, I'm very focused on going back into the private sector and providing for my family," Astorino told Daily Voice in a December interview. "We'll see."
The former radio executive said he'd been invited to host some politics-oriented broadcasts for WOR.
Astorino, who has golfed and regularly talks with Donald Trump, ruled out an appointment within the Trump Administration, although he was recently invited to the White House.
He said he got to see friends of his now working for Trump and "got to chat with the President. If you're invited to the Oval Office, you go,''' Astorino said.
Had former President Barack Obama invited him to Washington, D.C., he also would have gone, said Astorino who once greeted Obama at Westchester County Airport before a local visit during the Democrat's presidency.
Astorino was one of the founders of 1050 AM ESPN Radio in New York City, working as the station's executive producer and as executive producer of The Michael Kay Show. He also has been a host on the MSG Network.
